Things I want to do

I believe I used to be able to take a screenshot, but now I sometimes can’t do so in Windows 11.

This might be a temporary glitch, but I’m leaving this here because I’ve found a workaround.

Problem

Windows Print Screen does not work under certain circumstances.

  • PrintScreen, Alt+PrintScreen, Win+Shift+S, and the Snipping Tool all fail.
  • Under normal circumstances (such as when only the desktop is displayed or immediately after launching an application), taking a screenshot works without any problems.

Conditions under which the problem occurs

  • Take a screenshot of the window with the menu displayed by right-clicking in Explorer.
    • Displaying the right-click menu in Chrome works without any problems.
    • Displaying the desktop right-click menu is not a problem.

Avoidance strategy

To take a screenshot, select the screen you want to capture and press Win+PrintScreen.

The screen will invert and turn black.

A full screen capture will be saved in the following folder.

C:\Users\ユーザ名\Pictures\Screenshots

Please enter your own username.

You can also access the save location by opening File Explorer, selecting ‘Pictures’ from the left side, and taking a screenshot.

others

Select ‘Video’ from the menu that appears at the top when you press PrintScreen, and then perform the operation to save the video. You can also play the video and capture it, but the method described above is easier.

Result

The print screen function didn’t work under certain conditions, but I was able to save the image using a workaround.
